Our Story

Blue Viking Media is actually the expansion of an existing digital marketing consultancy started in 2010 by Jean Marie Elkins. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and an MBA from Western Washington University (Go Vikings!), Jean Marie worked as the Director of Operations for a social media marketing start-up, and later as the interim Director of Email Strategy for a successful internet service provider. She simultaneously worked as a Business Instructor and Curriculum Developer for North Seattle College, and quickly realized that her love for teaching combined with her entrepreneurial spirit demanded that she chase a different dream. It was not enough to earn a living; she needed to make a positive impact on the lives of others. 

While working in the corporate landscape, it became evident to Jean Marie that a few common problems are repeatedly suffered by small businesses. To begin with, the reason almost every client has for paying a person or company to build a website is the fact they they lack the skills to build it themselves. Therefore, even when beautiful sites or other forms of digital marketing products are delivered, the clients are often ill-equipped to make edits or changes without help that doesn't come free. Lastly, the high cost of website creation and digital marketing services of all kinds creates a barrier to progress for many small business owners.
